Climate Change
The human cost of climate change is already evident today. The European heatwave of 2003 contributed to over 22,000 human fatalities and $13.6bn in crop losses, but things continue to get worse. By 2080:
80million more people are at risk from flooding
290million more people could be exposed to malaria
Global warming could raise sea level by one metre in the next century, flooding 17% of Bangladesh
3 billion people could suffer increased water stress
Now your company and your employees can make a difference, simply and directly, through your flexible benefits programme.
Vebnet, the leader in supplying technology and support services for employee benefits, is empowering 250,000 employees at 170 customers to make a real difference to climate change. Every month, employees can put a little back in, through payroll giving, to offset the carbon emissions they produce.
This first-ever programme is made possible by a partnership between Vebnet and Pure, the Clean Planet Trust, a charity dedicated to combating climate change by carbon offsetting. It uses donations to buy Kyoto carbon credits and ensures each selected project has genuinely reduced carbon emissions. Then PURE cancels the credits so they can’t be used by the world’s big polluters which increases the speed of emissions reduction.”
Through Pure’s and Vebnet’s online technology, employees can first understand their individual carbon ‘footprint’ to know how much they should contribute to compensate the environment for their carbon dioxide pollution through household or travel emissions. They then can elect to contribute fully or partly to help the environment directly from their salary.
Vebnet and Pure congratulate the organisations who provide this opportunity for their employees to participate. They are leading the way with this simple Corporate Responsibility initiative. What’s more, this salary-sacrifice scheme is the only way for organisations to gain maximum tax advantage on green contributions from employees.
